Estimate your weekend
A planning range rather than a prediction. Load varies enormously by machine, tyre, driver, and how soft the sand is on the day.
Where to fill up
CLOSESTSilver Lake
There is fuel within a couple of miles of the park entrance, which is a genuine advantage over more remote dune destinations. It is also busiest exactly when everyone else needs it, so a Friday evening top-up beats a Saturday morning queue.
FULL SERVICEHart
The county seat, a short drive east, and the nearest thing to a full-service town. Fuel, groceries, and a real meal. The sensible last stop if you are coming in from US-31.
ON THE SANDNothing
There is no fuel inside the riding area itself. Whatever you burn out there was bought before you aired down, so start the day with a full tank rather than a hopeful one.
Carrying fuel safely
- Use approved containers, secured so they cannot shift or tip in transit
- Keep cans out of direct sun at camp, because heat builds pressure faster than people expect
- Never refuel a hot machine, and let it cool first
- Keep a fire extinguisher accessible at camp
- Carry more than a single day's worth if you are staying the weekend
Current prices
For live pricing, check a fuel-price app before you leave. Prices in small towns next to busy recreation areas typically run above the state average, which is the cost of the convenience.
