Vehicles measured above 94 decibels are restricted from the park for two full days. That is not a fine you pay and move on from, it is the weekend. If your exhaust is marginal, resolve it before you tow rather than at the check station.

The parking voucher system

On weekends and holidays from roughly mid-May through mid-September, towing an ORV in requires a parking voucher to secure a spot. The system exists to stagger arrival times so the lots do not overflow, which they otherwise comfortably would.

On the sand

No vehicles at the water's edge on either the Silver Lake or Lake Michigan side
Pedestrians share the dunes and can cross on foot to reach the water
The guided dune ride route is separate and is not part of the general ORV area
Riding under the influence is illegal on sand exactly as it is on pavement
Stay off vegetated dunes, which are what holds this landscape together at all
